Purpose

Welcome to Antoinette's Trianon! This site is devoted to Marie Antoinette. She loved her Trianon at Versailles. It was her place to escape from a world of strict etiquette and vicious politics. There she could be herself. I intend to try and use this blog to portray Marie Antoinette as a real person, not as a snobby queen who fictitiously told her subject to "eat cake" when they had no bread. Rather, I will post relevant news, discuss books, and hopefully scratch the surface of this fascinating woman smeared by history.

This Day in History

On Sept. 13, 1791 Louis XVI accepted France's first constitution. Though it was short lived (securing popular sovereignty) it was a huge step for France. Louis reluctantly signed it, making France a constitutional monarchy.

Versailles Opera Reopens

The Opera Royale, built as part of the Palace of Versailles as a wedding present for Marie Antoinette, is reopening after two years of restoration.

This article has some beautiful pictures of the newly restored opera, as well as explaining some of the work done.  Here's the link.

"An Adventure"

I remember reading this story when I was young, and recently ran across it again. The story is set in 1901. Two English women on vacation are visiting Versailles. Once they reach the Petit Trianon they find themselves in a strange and unfamiliar world...perhaps even coming face to face with Marie Antoinette herself!

Here at Museum of Hoaxes, I found a copy of the story online so others can read. Now I am not saying I believe or disbelieve the story, I just find it extremely interesting.
